A continuous, unattended deployment of Audisea's EchoNode hydrophone system at the Shikmona Marine Reserve, Haifa — evaluated window-by-window against independent AIS ground truth.
Every 20-second acoustic window was scored against live AIS transponder data for vessels within 5 km.
Of 16,826 evaluation windows, a vessel sat within the 5 km detection radius 60% of the time — a busy, realistic traffic mix off a commercial port approach.
A single EchoNode buoy, deployed continuously and unattended, was evaluated frame-by-frame against live AIS ground truth.
Dual-channel hydrophone audio captured in 20-second windows, around the clock, for 3.9 days with no gaps in the evaluation record.
Every window's model output — vessel type, range, and count within 5 km — was checked against live AIS transponder positions for all vessels in frame.
Type match, range error, and vessel count were scored independently for every one of the 16,826 windows — explorable individually in the evaluation tool.
Cargo and Tanker vessels — the largest, most acoustically distinct classes — reached 98–99% accuracy. Special-purpose craft, the rarest and most acoustically varied class, still reached 88%.
